Synopsis




:

WAREHOUSING is an integral part of every logistics system.  It plays a vital role in providing a desired level of customer service at the lowest possible total cost.  There are numerous managerial decisions in planning and initiating warehouse operations, including site selection, design, product-mix analysis, expansion material handling, layout, sizing, WMS, accuracy, safety and maintenance, besides discussing inventory management and concept.


1.0   INTRODUCTION TO WAREHOUSING
The topic exposes students to the concept of storage and warehousing.  It also introduces students to the nature and importance of warehousing apart from understanding the types and functions of warehouse.

2.0  WAREHOUSE DECISIONS
       This topic covers the basic concept that warehouses provide as an enclosure for materials storage and
       handling which requires detailed analysis before the size, type and shape of the facility can be
       determined.

3.0  MATERIAL HANDLING
This topic develops greater understanding of the principles of material handling, which is the key to warehouse productivity and considerations in the day-to-day operations of a warehouse.

4.0  PACKAGING
       This topic exposes students to consumer and logistics packaging which focuses on handling, protection
       and communication.  The discussion ends with a review of traditional and emerging packaging
       technologies.

5.0  WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
       This topic covers the warehouse operations with regards to the aspects of handling and storage.  It also
       discussed the concept of inventory management, policy and practice.

6.0  WAREHOUSING RELATIONSHIP
       The topic relates warehouse to transportation, production, customer service and least total cost logistics.

7.0 CURRENT AND DEVELOPMENT ISSUES IN WAREHOUSING
       This topic discusses current and development issues in warehouse with regards to security, safety,
       regulations, application system and operation system.
